It is situated on Shwebo- Monywa motor road in Pabedan Ward in Sagaing. It was built by King Monhnyn of Inn- wa in 792 enshrining the river relies brought by two monks who came back from Sri Lanka. The original name was Yadans Zedi.
In 847 it was damaged by earthquake and repaired by King Mingaung the Second of Inn-wa with figures of elephants at the base of the main wall and the entrance. Hence its name Sin-mya-shin.
